Who’s going?

Just me and Hubby. We’re not particularly fit. I am a “utility” cyclist, I guess. I take the children to school once a week by bike (well it is quite a long way – 18 miles return trip – that’s my excuse for not going every day) and go for the odd Cycle Touring Club (CTC) group ride when I can. I potter around the lanes, generally with a trailer behind me filled with children and on the tandem with my 8 year old and often with all three!

Hubby has just built his own bike (see his blog for his experiences on this if you’re interested) and is keen to get back to cycling. He’s got a “Cycle to work” week coming up which will help increase his fitness – work is 14 miles away.

In the dim and distant past B.C. (before children!) we used to cycle a fair amount and go on cycling tours, around Holland; the easy option ;-) We camped mainly, touring with bikes bending under our load. This time we’re staying in B&Bs, and travelling light. The route is not known for its flatness nor fine weather.

This is the first time hubby and I have been away on hols without the children since they were born. Quite exciting really.

I know this blog may not be particularly interesting to a lot of people but, having read other people’s blogs on this sort of thing, and found them very helpful, we thought we’d share our experiences for those planning a similar trip. We hope to keep it updated each evening on our trip – phone network permitting! Failing that, updates / photos will have to wait until our return. Advice gratefully received too!
